Forest School for Under Fives

Children under 5 years old, and their parent or carer, are invited to our fabulous Forest School group! We usually meet most Friday mornings, 10am-12pm, in Lamberhurst.

However we are currently taking a break and sessions are on hold until further notice. Please register or join our mailing list to find out when sessions will start again.

The sessions are drop-in, so you can stay for as long or short as you would like during the two hour slot. We have a variety of activities and resources available; from singing to sawing, climbing to chilling, there is something for all abilities and interests. There are group times which you can join in with and we encourage plenty of free play and exploration. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet other like minded people, while introducing your child to Forest School. The importance of building up young children's resilience from a very young age, and certainly before they start school, is huge. Coming to social sessions such as this gives young children (and their carers) the chance to make friends and build up a love for nature as well as a safe attitude to risky play.

We meet outside, in all weathers. The benefits of this are great, both mentally and physically, but please do be prepared and make sure you and your baby are dressed appropriately. At Little Foxes we fully encourage messy play and love to embrace mud!

You are encouraged to come as often as you can. One of the key principles of Forest School is that it is a regular thing, rather than just an occasional treat. Each week, your child will become more confident and will build on what they have learnt during previous sessions. In order to make this more affordable for you, we offer a Season Pass, giving you access to all of the sessions running during that season. Discounts are also offered for second and third children attending with the same adult.

Summer 2024

Family Fun Days

At Little Foxes we value the importance of family time and so host some sessions which are designed for the whole family to come along to. We love to see all ages- from the youngest babies to great grandparents, everyone is welcome. Our family fun days give you as a family the chance to all spend some quality time together in the woods. Activities on offer, which vary by session, may include den building, crafting, cooking on a fire, making mud pies and simply taking time to relax and enjoy your surroundings.

All within our wonderful woodland site, equipped with ropes for climbing and swinging, a mud area for digging & making, a fire to warm up by and plenty of big sticks for den building.

Please note the following:

- There must be an adult present with each group who takes responsibility for the children in their care. We do however encourage you to let your children explore by themselves and be as independent as possible, and love to see parents/ carers having a chat and enjoying the woodland atmosphere themselves.

- When booking, please make us aware of any allergies/ other details of significance so that we can cater for this during the session.

- The session will go ahead in almost all weathers. Please dress accordingly. The only time we would have to cancel is if there are high winds or lightning. If this is the case, we will contact everyone who has booked to explain the situation.

- During the session we will be sitting on logs/ the woodland floor. If you require a chair, please feel very free to bring one.

- There are no toilets on site; the nearest public toilets are in the centre of Lamberhurst, behind the Memorial Village Hall.

Holiday Happenings

During the school holidays we run sessions for primary school aged children to come and play in the forest. For those who are Forest School pros to those first timers who would like to give it a go, we welcome you all! Sessions are aimed at children aged 4-10 years old, but siblings of any age are welcome too. Please note that children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult, although you are free to sit back and relax while your child plays!

Get in touch if you would like to be added to the mailing list to find out when the next Holiday Happenings event will be.

Home Ed Meet Ups

We plan to run sessions for children who are home educated, aged from 4-11 years. We believe it is great for children and their parents to come and meet other like-minded families, having some vital socialisation time as well as giving your child the chance to learn new skills. During our Home Education Sessions we encourage participants to learn to use tools, light fires, forage and make shelters, all in a safe and relaxed environment.

Sessions will run for 2 1/2 hours and include time together as a group and free time to explore and develop skills. We will usually begin with a welcome circle and demonstrate a new skill that the participants can develop that week, but then like to give the children free choice of what to do during their session. Resources such as hammocks and tarps will be available as well as certain tools. We like to give the children access to nature books and craft resources too.

If you are interested in attending our Home Ed Meet Ups, please contact us. Once we have enough interest we can confirm dates for a block of sessions.

Forest Kindergarten

Sometimes children like to explore the forest without their grown ups in tow! We can give your child the opportunity to immerse themselves in Forest School, meeting other children and playing with whatever interests them. During their block of sessions children may be able to make dens, use tools, cook on a campfire and learn to whittle, all with the support of our Forest Adventure staff.

Get in touch if you are interested and we will add you to the waiting list.

Afterschool Club

We think it is important for children to be given the chance to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Meeting for a short session after school can help to clear their head and re-energise them before going home to get on with homework or helping to cook the dinner!

Let us know if you are interested in afterschool sessions and we will contact you when dates are confirmed.
